More Than A Name...It's How We Do Business
Broken sewer lateral? Leaking main water line? Converting from septic to public sewer? Golden Rule Plumbing & Contracting owns our own excavator and dump trailer, and our own crews do the digging. There is no subcontractor, no second company to schedule around, and no markup stacked on top of the dig. One licensed team handles the camera inspection, the excavation, the pipe work, the township inspection, the backfill, and the seed and straw. Estimates are free, and we’ll come out and look at the job before we quote it.

Call a plumber not a handy salesman
Most plumbing companies in Chester County don’t own a machine. When a job needs a trench, they call an excavation contractor, wait for that contractor’s schedule, and pass the bill to you with their own margin added. If something goes wrong underground, you’re stuck between two companies pointing at each other.
We dig our own jobs. The operator on the excavator is on the same crew that cameraed the line and will lay the new pipe, so nobody is guessing at depth or location, and most jobs are opened, repaired, and closed in a single day. With no second company to pay, homeowners who’ve compared quotes tell us we’re typically at least $1,000 less than much of the competition.
What it costs. Excavation pricing depends on depth, length, and what’s sitting on top of the line: lawn, concrete, or a driveway. On our sewer line page we publish the averages we actually see: a sewer trap replacement around $3,600, a spot repair around $2,000, and a full-length replacement around $5,000. Because the dig is done in house, customers who’ve shopped around tell us we come in at least $1,000 under much of the competition. Call 610-701-3371 for a range over the phone, or schedule a free estimate and we’ll come look at it.
Where we dig. We work throughout Chester County. We regularly coordinate permits and inspections with West Goshen, West Whiteland, East Caln, Uwchlan, East Whiteland, Downingtown Borough, and many more townships and boroughs across the county. Older neighborhoods in West Chester and Downingtown still have original clay and cast iron laterals, which make up a large share of our excavation calls.

At Golden Rule Plumbing, our name is our philosophy. We treat every Chester County homeowner the way we’d want to be treated, which means no surprise charges, no membership fees, and no salesman pushing services you don’t need.
In most cases, we can describe what’s likely wrong and give you a price estimate before we schedule. That kind of transparency is rare in the trades, and it’s what’s kept Chester County homeowners calling us for over 17 years.
We do it ourselves. Golden Rule owns its own excavator and dump trailer, and our own crews run them. The same team that cameras your line does the digging, the pipe work, and the backfill. There is no subcontractor and no second bill.
Yes. We come out, look at the job, and give you a written price at no charge. For many jobs we can also give you a realistic range over the phone before we visit.
It depends on how deep the line is, how long the run is, and what sits on top of it. Lawn is the cheapest to open and restore, then walkways, then concrete or asphalt driveways. Our published averages are about $2,000 for a spot repair, $3,600 for a sewer trap replacement, and $5,000 for a full-length sewer replacement. Because we dig in house, homeowners who have compared quotes tell us we are typically at least $1,000 less than much of the competition. Call 610-701-3371 for a range based on your situation.
Most residential sewer lateral and water service replacements are opened, replaced, inspected, and backfilled in a single day. Longer runs, very deep lines, or work under a driveway can add a day. We tell you the realistic timeline before we start.
Yes, sewer and water line work in Chester County requires a township permit and inspection, and Pennsylvania law requires a PA One Call utility markout before any digging. We handle both. We file the permit, place the One Call, and meet the inspector on site.
No. Because we locate the problem with a camera first, we dig only where the repair is needed. A spot repair often means one hole a few feet long rather than a trench across the yard. When we are finished we backfill, compact, rough grade, and put down seed and straw.
No. We do open trench repair and replacement only, and we are upfront about that. Trenchless lining installs a liner inside your old pipe, is usually quoted at a premium, and is not an option when the pipe has collapsed, has offset joints, or holds water in a belly. Open trench work gives you brand new pipe, and because we own our equipment, our pricing regularly comes in at or below trenchless quotes. We camera the line and tell you honestly what it needs.
